Contemporary Approaches to Integrated Care & Service Delivery (Top-up) - BSc (Hons) This top-up course is for staff working in health and social care and offers an opportunity to access degree-level studies through module credit accumulation. The course has a very flexible framework that can be adapted to fit your personal circumstances, employment and professional development, enabling you to develop a programme that is directly relevant to your professional role. This study route also provides the greatest flexibility for accreditation of prior learning from ‘smaller’ units of learning. The course offers a broad range of specialist modules covering the practical skills and knowledge for professional practice. It also covers the theoretical framework through the study of research methods, clinical examination skills, leadership skills and legal, ethical and professional issues that are key transferable knowledge and skills to enable work both in Acute and Community Care. For all our professional development courses we are happy to accept self-funded or employer-funded applicants. All modules are included in the continuing professional development service level agreement with the NHS Health Education North West. Applicants should contact their manager to explore funding arrangements. About the course The Health and Community Studies Academic Group is clearly focused in its commitment to developing a health and social care workforce that can manage and achieve success in their lifelong personal and professional aspirations. The course is designed to provide you with the key transferable knowledge and skills required to work across both Acute and Community Care. It is a top-up degree programme and consists of 6 modules. Practice-based learning is integral to the programme and you will be drawing upon your practice placement experience within each module to enable you to apply theory to practice. In addition one of the key features throughout the course is that many of the sessions will be delivered by expert healthcare professionals and expert service users. The modules we offer for this programme are inspired by research for this curriculum development and supported by highly qualified and enthusiastic knowledgeable staff. Special features We currently recruit students to the existing undergraduate and professional development programmes from a range of backgrounds including nursing, midwifery, public health practice, allied health professions, ambulance personnel, local authority, assistant practitioners, mental health practitioners and support workers. The framework of the course provides the opportunity for students to study single stand-alone professional development modules at level HE6 to undertake a programme leading to BSc (Hons). This course is highly flexible and tailored to your individual learning requirements. What you will learn You will enhance your critical awareness of current issues within health studies and health and social care practice and develop an in-depth knowledge of a range of health and social care topics and the principles and theories which underpin them. You will achieve high levels of proficiency in the key skills relevant to your personal and professional development planning needs including team skills, problem solving, numeracy, oral and written communication skills, and information and communication technology. You will learn to take responsibility for the extension of your learning and to exercise independent judgement in the investigation, analysis and evaluation of health care fields that you perceive as relevant to your own practice and you will develop the confidence to apply your knowledge and reflect on experience in the independent critical analysis and evaluation of health and social care practice. You will also learn about the biological basis of disease and therapeutics and leadership concepts including theories and styles. You will enhance your research skills and learn to develop evidence-based concepts and explanations from law, psychology, social policy and sociology.
